GENERAL INFORMATION

RoboCupJunior Soccer is an educational initiative focused on elementary, middle, and high school students, as well as early university students. In this competition, teams of 2 vs. 2 autonomous mobile robots play matches on a miniature soccer field, searching for a ball and trying to send it to the corresponding goal, or defending against the opposing offense.

The robots, built exclusively by the participants, must be fully autonomous; in addition to observing them in play, they will be examined for their construction, technical design, and programming, ensuring that the tournament champion has the best balance of all these elements. Participants must be able to give their best in programming, robotics, electronics, and mechatronics skills, but they must also contribute to teamwork and share their knowledge with other participants, regardless of their age or the outcome in the competition. It is expected that everyone competes, learns, has fun, and grows.

Within this category, there are two physical subleagues:

Soccer lightweight: Subleague for all members between 14 and 19 years old on July 1st. Matches are played with a well-balanced electronic ball. The ball emits infrared (IR) light in the so-called “pulsed mode.”

Soccer open: For all team members between 14 and 19 years old on July 1st. Matches are played with an orange golf ball.

Restrictions:

RCJ Soccer teams must consist of at least 2 members and up to a maximum of 4.

Age is considered as of July 1st each year for the RoboCup world championship and, therefore, also for the Mexican Robotics Tournament.

Each contestant can only be registered in a single team, sub-league, and league throughout RoboCupJunior.

Team limits per institution:

  • Maximum 1 team per subleague in Rescue Line and Rescue Maze.
  • Maximum 2 teams per subleague in all subleagues of Soccer and OnStage.
  • The number of teams in Rescue Simulation (formerly CoSpace) will not be limited.
  • The institution that has obtained first place in each subleague of the previous tournament (TMR2024) and has sent their participation report to RoboCup gains the right to register an additional team in that same subleague. They must register the additional team and its members, and before concluding the pre-registration, send an email to regtmr@femexrobotica.org indicating the name of the team to which they wish to apply this right.

Rules

The rules for the RoboCupJunior Soccer 2025 competition are published on the international RoboCupJunior website.
These rules can be consulted in https://junior.robocup.org/soccer/. Keep in mind that the international committees are in the process of reviewing the rules, so you should check periodically to find out if there have been any updates.

The RoboCupJunior Soccer competition will include the following aspects:

  • Virtual interview (prior to the on-site registration day).
  • Verification of the physical compliance of the robots and presentation with a team poster (on the on-site registration day).
  • Matches against other teams in a Swiss system.
  • Finals (only for the top teams in the ranking).
  • Technical challenges.
